Welcome to Naniwa Danshi Gift Exchange 2026, a fanfiction exchange for works about Naniwa Danshi and any works they’ve starred in!

Timeline:

Sunday 1st of March: Sign-ups open
Sunday 8th of March: Sign-ups close (11:59 P.M. EST)
Monday 9th of March: Assignments out (may be later)
Monday 13th of April: Assignment deadline (11:59 P.M. EST)

FAQ:

What do you need to include in your signup?

You may request and offer 1-10 fandoms (Naniwa Danshi and/or their dramas/movies/etc.), each with a minimum of at least three characters and three relationships (platonic or romantic).

Because of the small nature of this exchange, we strongly recommend adding as many ships/characters/dramas/movies as possible so that we can get everyone matched.

If you request a work that a Naniwa Danshi member starred in, please be sure to use the correct fandom tag. For example, if you’re requesting Kieta Hatsukoi/My Love Mix-Up!, please be sure to use the tag 消えた初恋 | Kieta Hatsukoi | Vanishing My First Love (TV) and not 消えた初恋 | Kieta Hatsukoi | Vanishing My First Love (Manga). At least one of the characters you request in these fandoms must be the one that Naniwa Danshi played, and every relationship must involve them.

In the additional details, please be sure to include any DNWs. These would be everything you Do Not Want, and would include things that would ruin a gift for you. You can also include your likes, prompts, and anything that might help your creator make the perfect gift! There is also the option of providing a link to another platform where you outline further details.

As this exchange is anonymous until the author reveals, please do not attempt to reach out to your recipient if you have any questions. Any inquiries can be directed to our email, and we’ll communicate with the recipient on your behalf!

How does the matching process work?

After reviewing your submission, you will be assigned to write for one recipient. You will have access to their provided submission details, and you will have the choice to write for any of the fandoms (characters and ships) that they requested. They will have requested at least one of the fandoms/characters/ships that you offered.

If we find that none of your offers match any requests, we’ll contact you and ask that you add relevant offers. You can choose not to add any, at which point you’ll be removed from the exchange. Please be aware that any communication from us will be sent to the email attached to your AO3 account.

What are the rules for assignments?

Assignments must be a complete fanfiction of 1,000 words. While the requests and likes of the recipients are just suggestions to help you create your gift, please adhere to their Do Not Wants.

While you’re allowed to do some editing in the period before reveals, please be sure that the fanfiction that you upload into the collection has a full beginning, middle and end, and can be read completely without running into placeholders or missing scenes.

During the period up to the author reveals, please do not post your work to other platforms or link it to your name. It will ruin the surprise reveal at the end!

What is defaulting?

If you find yourself unable to finish your fanfiction, you can go to your assignments page on AO3 and click the “default” button to withdraw from the exchange. There is no need to contact us or provide a reason; we understand that people can get busy!

Please do this as early as possible so that we have enough time to find a pinch hitter, someone who can step in and take your place.

If you default, you may still get a gift if your creator had already finished it, but if they also default, you will not go out as a pinch hit.

What are treats?

Not only can you write gifts for the specific person you’ve been assigned, but you can also browse the requests of the other participants and create fanfiction for them as well. These are called treats!

If your AO3 account was created after February 1, 2022, you may need to check that your account has enabled additional gifts. Go to preferences and select "Allow anyone to gift me works."

We request that those who do NOT want to receive treats mention that in their signup.

Rules:

- The minimum requirement is 1,000 words of a completed fanfiction. You are free to go over that baseline.
- Gifts may not include anything that a recipient has listed as a DNW (Do Not Want).
- This exchange is a NANIWA DANSHI exchange. Please only make requests/offers/gifts where Naniwa Danshi or their acting roles are the main focus. Of course, you may include members of other groups or other characters, as long as the fanfiction isn’t centred on them!
- You can request any drama/movie/work as long as they have played a role in it. Please include the character they played as a part of your request or offer.
